The Global Hypnosis Academy is the only hypnosis academy in Australia teaching true mesmerism and magnetism, and Rick Collingwood has practised and taught it for more than thirty years. You can study mesmerism online from anywhere in Australia, or train for six days in class in Melbourne, Perth or Phnom Penh.
Online mesmerism training is AUD $599, or USD $420, and study opens the day you register. The six day in-class Certificate of Hypnosis and Mesmerism is AUD $2,997, or USD $2,200.
Two ways to train in mesmerism in Australia
What mesmerism is
Mesmerism, also called magnetism, is non-verbal hypnosis. Trance is induced through the magnetic gaze and through mesmeric passes worked through the client's energy field, with very few words spoken.
Verbal hypnosis is the stronger tool for habits and behavioural change. Mesmerism is the stronger tool for psychosomatic conditions, and it reaches clients who do not respond to words alone.

What the mesmerism training covers
The training covers mesmerism and magnetism, the magnetic methods, deep trance work, and historical technique applied in practice. Mesmerism is taught as a discipline in its own right and as a set of methods that combine with hypnosis.

Where mesmerism training is held
Online study is available Australia-wide, so students in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin and regional Australia train from home. The in-class days run on two Friday to Sunday weekends in Melbourne and Perth, and on six consecutive days in Phnom Penh.

Who teaches mesmerism here
Rick Collingwood holds Mesmerismus Magnetista (Mesmerism) among his qualifications, and the magnetists working and teaching here today learned it from him. The Academy was founded in 1993 and has trained more than 5,000 students.
The method comes down through Virgilio Torrizano, who learned it from the line of Donato, the 19th century magnetist who pioneered rapid non-verbal fascination. Rick was taught that technique directly. About Rick Collingwood
Mesmerism training fees
An in-class place is secured with a deposit of AUD $1,000, or USD $700. Online training fees are deducted from a later in-class enrolment.

How long does mesmerism training take?
The online training is worked through at your own pace. The in-class training is six days, with days four to six given to hypnosis and mesmerism training.
What qualification does mesmerism training lead to?
The online training leads to a Certificate of Clinical Magnetism, issued on completion of the examination and self-assessments. The six day in-class training leads to a Certificate of Hypnosis and Mesmerism.
Do I need to complete hypnosis training first?
The two online trainings are enrolled for separately or together. Any entry requirement is confirmed in the current information pack.
What is the difference between mesmerism and hypnosis?
Modern hypnosis relies on sound and words to induce trance. Mesmerism uses very few words: trance is induced through the magnetic gaze and mesmeric passes, and the state that results is different from the state produced by a verbal induction.
Where is in-class mesmerism training held?
In Melbourne in January 2027, Perth in February 2027 and Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in March 2027. The online training can be studied from anywhere.
